  1. I have a letter dated 1893 signed by one of the Smede who emigrated. I believe that there was two bnothers who emigrated and they both had large families. The township of Pyangle was where the letter came from or the post off ice Lue and it enclosed a postal order for £1 which was a lot in those days and the letter was addressed to the Clay family.
I have been researching both sides of my family and it was interesting to come across your communication. I have never been to Australia but have friends and family living there now.
My mother’s christian name was Gezena which I think dates back to the german connection.

  2. Hi

I am researching families associated with the greater Rylstone area which includes Pyangle and the Smede family. Do you know which members of the family arrived in Australia, and when and how they arrived please? I am adding the information to an online wiki which can be found at rdhswiki.com

John Frederick’s page can be found at

    My email is rdhswiki@gmail.com
    Thanks.

    • Hi Fiona

We have been in touch in the past about your wiki which I think is fabulous. At this stage I have been unable to find out when John Frederick and David John Smede arrived in Australia. I have found neither’s immigration records, maybe they swam?? I think, no proof though, that John F was here first as he was the older of the 2 and that David followed him later.

If I ever find out I will let you know.

Your wiki is wonderful. There is so much useful information on it.

      Kind regards
      Tanya Honey
